In "He Who Must Not Be Named" We Trust

Myself, along with others across America watched as Dr. Michael Newdow argued that the phrase "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance violates the separation of church and state before the Supreme Court. No decision has been made as of yet but it was reported that the physician and atheist held his own in court, particularly for a nonpracticing lawyer.

I'm not sure what bothers me more... That Dr. Newdow chose this topic to lay hands on his fifteen minutes of fame or that he was actually able to take the argument to the Supreme Court... The highest court in the land who ironically start their sessions with a prayer. Polls taken across America overwhelmingly disapprove of removing the phrase "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance but that doesn't seem to dissuade Dr. Newdow. His own child, who he purportedly is making such a fuss about the phrase in the first place for, doesn't have a problem with the pledge the way it is.

This argument and waste of the Supreme Court's time makes my blood boil.

Granted, Jesus taught that only those without sin should cast stones and on that basis I find myself without pebbles to throw. Still, this just seems outrageous to me. If Dr. Newdow succeeds, what's next? What if next he perceives that his daughter has a problem handling currency because of the wording "In God We Trust?" Should all currency be recalled to abolish the phrase?

Give me a break.

Where are we headed America? Is the very utterance of the word "God" going to eventually make everyone stop in their tracks at the horror? I'm reminded of the central evil character in the Harry Potter books. Now brace yourself, his name is Lord Voldemort. Shh. I'm writing in a whisper... Few are brave enough to speak his name. Most people refer to him as "He who must not be named" or "You know who." Is that where we are headed with God? Perhaps we could borrow from Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling and replace references to God with "He who must not be named."

Think about it....

One nation, under he who must not be named, we trust.

We might have to change the size of some coins and currency to accommodate it but it just might work.

On the other hand we could just tell those who would be named like Dr. Michael Newdow to get a life.

Since he doesn't believe in God it seems ludicrous to me that he would want to waste any of the time he has left on this earth.
